Approximately 1.5 million people in the United States ages 3-17 have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9128411/).

While public school systems in America make efforts to include and educate neurodivergent children, they simply cannot meet the rising needs of this population. Furthermore, the social constructs of public schools make little room for children who are neurologically "different".

As a parent of a child on the Autism Spectrum, I had to show up to school on several occasions with Police as well as Child Protective Services between second and eighth grades for the physical assaults and bullying my daughter endured at the hands of children in public school.

Finally I found a private school for students like my daughter. I had to pay college level tuition to have her attend. So I took on a second job to pay for her to attend. When I saw the incredible change in my child who needed to be in a safe space for her academic "super powers" to flourish I knew that this was a solution not only for her, but for countless others. So I paid the high price of private education to give my daughter what she needed. She made good friends, developed life skills and has achieved academically in ways I never dreamed she would.

It occurred to me that so many kids like her are enduring the same kinds of physical assaults and bullying that she endured but their parents have no means to give those children a safe space to thrive academically as well as socially. So, I am working with friends, colleagues and community partners to bring forth the Isabella Vincent Academy for the Neurodivergent.  We're starting with Middle school and high school level students who have an IEP and diagnosis of ASD, ADHD, or Cerebral Palsy and other forms of neurodivergence.

Our mission is to provide an environment conducive to academic, social and behavioral learning experiences that meet students at their level of need. We aim to assist these unique individuals in their discovery of their personal abilities and provide them with career learning experiences that lead to professions amenable to their individual and unique abilities. This will help them become confident,  independent and able to contribute positively to society.

Help us provide what these students need. Proceeds from our community thrift shop go to the fund to open the doors for this incredible new future for so many kids. But you can also contribute financially. Donations are tax deductible.
